Palms: 'Patagonia' [UPDATED: Track listing]

Palms have posted a new song online from their self-titled, debut album titled "Patagonia".

In my last little blurb about Palms, I had an unmastered version of Palms' song "Tropics" streaming and also declared Chino Moreno to be the Barry White of metal.

This newly released song isn't nearly as sexy, but it's still quite enjoyable. In Pitchfork's brief review of the track, Ian Cohen declared, "it fits squarely between the [Deftones and Isis], imagining either the most patient and expansive parts of Koi No Yokan or a more accessible cut from Wavering Radient."

Personally, I don't think I'd ever compare this song to anything Isis has ever done, nor would I compare it to Deftones, if it weren't for Moreno's distinct vocal styles. Which is a good thing and really what I think Palms is trying to be: it's own beast.

If you're still unfamiliar with Palms, the band unites three former Isis members with Deftones' vocalist. I have been dying to get my greasy little paws on their debut album since the band announced their existence maybe a year and a half ago. The anticipation is slowly paying off with this one official track and the other unofficial one.

Check out "Patagonia" over at Pitchfork.

[UPDATE] -- Immediately after posting this, I found the album's track listing on Amazon. Amazon doesn't have track lengths for these six songs, but according to the band's website, the album will be released in CD and 2xLP formats. A single LP can hold ~45 minutes worth of music, so if it's a double LP, that means at least some of these tracks are going to be quite long to require a second disk.

  1. "Future Warrior"
  2. "Patagonia"
  3. "Mission Sunset"
  4. "Shortwave Radio"
  5. "Tropics"
  6. "Antarctic Handshake"
