Crosses Are... Up to Something...

New details from Crosses conflict with previous statements, leaving slobbering fans who eat up every piece of information on the internet about this band confused. Everyone else was probably very excited.

Crosses, an electronic rock band featuring members of Deftones and Far, formed in 2011 and recorded approximately 16 songs. But now it looks like we might not get to hear all of those tracks anymore.

The plan was to release these 16 songs in the form of three digital EPs and later compile them into one compilation album/box set after all that was said and done. It seemed to me like Crosses would release three, five-song EPs and the leftover 16th track was actually "The Years" featured on the soundtrack to Batman: Arkham City.

While that's all hunky dory, as someone who prefers piece-meal EPs to full-length albums, new details seem to suggest Crosses are changing up their plans a little bit.

With what we all assume would have been titled EP 3 still unreleased, featuring the last five songs from their original recording sessions, Crosses have returned to the studio and are recording... something.

Was EP 3 scrapped? Are they rerecording it? Is this something new? A full-length album perhaps? Will this be a new pool of songs from which they'll slowly release digital EPs over the next few years? Maybe it's just a remix or cover like what they did with Rob Zombie's track "Dragula"? Maybe it's just me, but when things don't go according to plan, billions of questions pop into my head.

It should also be noted that this is the first time Chino Moreno has written/recorded anything since the passing of Deftones' bassist, Chi Cheng. Shaun Lopez, member of Far and Crosses, was also close with Cheng. The title track from Far's At Night We Live was about his then-current comatose state. Might the passing of a dear friend have an impact on these new sessions?

The only bit of concrete news we have so far from their official website is that Crosses are definitely in the studio. Above and below are the studio images posted in the last few days taken from the band's Instagram.
